The smoke produced by burning tobacco contains the highly toxic alkaloid nicotine and tars, phenols, carbon monoxide, cyanides, nitrates, nitrites, carcinogenic, co-carcinogenic and perhaps 100 other chemicals, alpha-emitters, etc. An experimental teratogen. A nicotine-containing dried leaf of the tobacco plant. Habitual inhalation of tobacco smoke is considered a leading cause of lung cancer and circulatory problems, cardiac problems, etc. Combustible when exposed to heat or flame.
