Suspected carcinogen with experimental carcinogenic data. Poison by ingestion and intraperitoneal routes. Moderately toxic by inhalation and skin contact. A skin and eye irritant. An experimental teratogen. Experimental reproductive effects. Mutation data reported. Combustible when exposed to heat or flame; can react vigorously with oxidizing materials. To fight fire, use dry chemical, CO₂, alcohol foam, water spray, fog, mist. Reacts with bromine perchlorate to form an explosive product. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of Cl⁻. A solvent, heat transfer fluid, transformer, hydraulic fluid, and wash liquor.
